OBITUARY ~ LEVICE ANN (SMITH) NOBLE

Levice Ann NOBLE, daughter of Alonzo and Anna SMITH, was born May 5, 1885, on a farm a mile south of Caledonia, Iowa, and departed this life on August 15, 1969, in the Ringgold County Hospital at the age of 84 years, three months and 10 days.

Her childhood days were spent in the Caledonia vicinity, and she received her education from the Caledonia school

Early in life she united with the Caledonia Methodist church and remained a faithful member up to and prior to her illness. She served the church in the capacity of pianist.

On March 18, 1903, she was united in marriage with Van Jones NOBLE and of this union were born six children - three sons and three daughters.

After their marriage, they established their home on a farm one and one-half miles east of Caledonia and remained there for seven years. In 1910, the family moved to a farm in Barnes county, N. D., where they resided for three years. They returned to the farm they had previously lfet near Caledonia and here she spent the remaining years of her life.

She was a faithful wife, a kind and loving mother, a gracious neighbor and always willing to lend a helping hand. Her passing will grieve all who knew her and her absence from among us will leave a vacancy unfilled.

Those who preceded her in death were her husband, parents, her daughters, Leah and Patience; a son Evangelist Keith NOBLE; two brothers, Edison and Homer and four sisters, Lizzie, Electa, Cora and Bertha.

Left to mourn her passing and cherish a precious memory are her two sons, Donald and the Rev. Norman of Mount Ayr; a daughter, Marjorie LAMB of Escondido, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Enda NOBLE; a son-in-law, Emmett LAMB; two brothers, William SMITH, of Glenfield, N. D. and Everett SMITH of Mount Ayr; a sister, Clara MAIN of Lamoni; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Aug. 18 from the Rhoades Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Jerrold SWINTON. Mrs. Ray STILL and Alma GERMAN sang, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Rollin NOBLE. Casketbearers were Everett STUCK, George GERMAN, Shellie SCOTT, Junior SHIELDS, Ray STILL and Harold STEPHENS. Burial was in the Rose Hill cemetery at Mount Ayr.

The Watcher
She always leaned
to watch for us,
Anxious if we were late,
In winter by the window, In summer by the gate.

And though we mocked
her tenderly,
Who had such foolish care,
The long way home
would seem more safe
Because she waited there.

Her thoughts were all
so full of us -
She never could forget!
And so I think that
where she is
She must be watching yet.

Waiting till we come home to her,
Anxious if we are late --
Watching from heaven's window,
Leaning from heaven's gate.

Words cannot express the deep appreciation we feel for the many acts of kindness extended us during the illness and at the time of the death of our dear mother and grandmother, Levice NOBLE. For the help given, food brought to our homes by persons of the Delphos and Caledonia communities and others, the dinner prepared and served by the ladies of the Caledonia church, those who called and offered sympathy and for the beautiful flora tribute we sincerely thank you.
