OBITUARY - HAROLD LEE BOWER
March 5, 1934 ~ January 27, 2011

Harold Lee BOWER, 76, of Mount Ayr, Iowa passed away January 27, 2011 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Harold was born March 5, 1934 in Albany, Missouri to Harry George and Thelma Etta QUIGLEY BOWER. The oldest of four children, he graduated from Albany High School in 1952. He enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean War. He returned to the states after serving for 18 months and worked in Mount Ayr where he met Barbara Ann STUCK. They were united in marriage on May 31, 1959. Harold & Barbara welcomed their only child, a daughter, Tammy Renee BOWER, on March 13, 1960.

He worked various jobs throughout his lifetime, clear up to present. Harold served on the Mount Ayr Volunteer Fire Department for many years as well as the Ringgold County Sheriff's Posse.

Harold accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age and joined the Albany Presbyterian Church. On February 28, 1971 he was baptized and joined the First Baptist Church in Mount Ayr. In February 2010, Harold became a member of the United Baptist Presbyterian Church. He had a strong, close relationship with God.

Harold enjoyed taking his grandkids fishing, helping Kent & Tammy in the field by delivering meals and running errands, woodworking, and helping Barbara with her crafts and campaigns. He spent the last few years following his son-in-law Kent & grandson Brett to tractor pulls and took great pride in watching his great-grandsons, Carter, Kegan, & Colt, play and grow.

Harold was preceded in death by his mother and father; mother & father-in-law Lula and John STUCK; brother George BOWER; and sisters Laura YOUNG and Harriet McCONKEY.

Harold is survived by his wife Barbara; daughter Tammy (Kent) ENGLAND of Mount Ayr; granddaughter Jennifer (Tom) DeMOTT of Bedford; grandson Brett (Jodi) ENGLAND of Ellston; great-grandsons Carter, Kegan, and Colt DeMOTT of Bedford; brother & sister-in-laws Henry & Virginia CAMPUZANO, L.D. YOUNG, and Alan McCONKEY; as well as numerous nephews & nieces.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and was unselfish in giving himself to help others. A memorial fund has been established to the United Baptist Presbyterian Church and the Mount Ayr Volunteer Fire Dept.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 30, 2001 at the united Baptist Presbyterian Church, Mount Ayr, Iowa. Interment was made at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr. Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr was in charge of arrangements.
