OBITUARY - DENNIS D. TERWILLIGER
Dennis D. TERWILLIGER, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mack TERWILLIGER, was born February 25, 1906 in Liberty township near Mount Ayr, and departed this life on July 5, 1978 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 72 years, four months and 10 days.
On January 19, 1928, Dennis was united in marriage to Alice ELLIOTT, and they were privileged to observe their 50th wedding anniversary this past January. To this marriage were born two daughters - Joan Lee NOBLE of Mount Ayr and Margery Sue RUCKMAN of Centerville, Iowa.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Doyle TERWILLIGER.
Dennis accepted the Lord as his Savior in 1960 and was baptized into the First Baptist Church in Mount Ayr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alice; two daughters, Joan and Sue; two sons-in-law, Rollin NOBLE and Richard RUCKMAN; four grandchildren - Larry, Chris and Karen RUCKMAN and Jerry NOBLE; one great-grandchild, Paul RUCKMAN; one brother, Warren; two sisters, Maxine SNEDEKER and Ruth WHEELOCK, all of Mount Ayr, plus numerous relatives and a host of friends.
Dennis worked in the Standard Oil business for several years, working with Harry HETZEL, and also operated his own tank wagon delivery service, and through this occupation he made countless friends.
Dennis, or Den, as he was called, spent his entire lifetime in Ringgold county. He was a loving husband and father, and was happiest when he was with his family and his grandchildren, and many friends.
Funeral services were arranged and held at the Rhoades-Wilson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on July 8, at 1:30 p.m., with Pastor Paul KNIESS officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Elaine WILLIS, with accompaniment at the organ by Mrs. Nancy SACKETT.
Casketbearers were Robert ERICKSON, Robert ROE, Clyde BRAND, Hugh TERWILLIGER, Larry RUCKMAN and Chris RUCKMAN. Honorary members were Ames CROSS, Walter STUCK, Merle STEPHENS and Burl SACKETT.
Interment was in the Rose Hill cemetery in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
