November, 1987OBITUARY - BERTHA ISABEL (NAYLOR) BEDELL
Bertha Isabel BEDELL, daughter of Seal and Carolyn NAYLOR, was born January 17, 1884, in Decatur County, Iowa. She passed away November 5, 1987 at the Shady Lane Nursing Home in Savannah, Missouri, at the age of 103 years.
She was a member of the Elk Chapel Church.
She was united in marriage to Isaac Winnit BEDELL in 1900. To this union three daughters and one son were born, Mabel McCULLOUGH RICE, Zoretta Lucille STRAIGHT, LaVerne Helen TRICE and Wayne Everette BEDELL.
After the death of Isaac in 1939, Bertha was busy caring for and raising her grandchildren.
Bertha was united in marriage to Sherman BEDELL, cousin of Isaac, in 1942.
Bertha lived most of her life west of Decatur on a farm. She loved her garden and flowers. She was always happy to have friends and neighbors stop by and talk with her. Bertha always had the coffee pot on and an extra plate always set at the dinner table.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Isaac and Sherman; son Wayne; daugher Zoretta; on sister and two brothers.
Surviving are her two daughters, Mabel RICE of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada, and LaVerna TRICE of Kellerton, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Clinton RICE of Dawson Creek, B.C., Gary McCULLOUGH and his wife, Merrill of Chertoynd, B.C., Canada, Bea RAMSEY and her husband Chuck of Savannah, Missouri, Don STRAIGHT and his wife Bev of Arizona, Monte STRAIGHT and his wife Gladys of Ashland, Nebraska, Kathy LARSEN of Kellerton, Iowa, Jeannie KRONSNOWKIE and her husband Paul, Helen HALL and her husband Bert, Susan SHOCKLEY and her husband Larry, all from Anchorage, Alaska, Cindy CLAFFEY and her husband Mark of Los Angeles, California, Larry BEDELL and his wife of Kansas City, Kansas, and Karen BURDETTE and her husband Robert of Missouri. Bertha is also survived by 29 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Bertha loved all of her grandchildren very dearly and was very interested in each and every one of them.
Funeral services were held on November 6, 1987, from the Slade and Duerr Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Terry D. ROBERTS. Burial was in the Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, Iowa. Organist was Virginia WEBB. Casketbearers were Thayne RAMSEY, Clinton RICE, Mark SCHWIZER, Danny STRIAGHT, Donald STRAIGHT and Monte STRAIGHT, Jr.
