OBITUARY - EULA CATHERINE (BROCKWAY) BEAR

Eula Catherine, daughter of Percy and Eula BROCKWAY, was born a twin June 18, 1909 on a ranch southwest of Douglas, Wyo. and passed away August 31 [1986], at the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, at the age of 77 years, two months and 13 days.

Eula lived in the Douglas, Wyo. community all of her young life. She received a degree in Beauty Culture from Mrs. J. H. SCHMIDT, March 10, 1928 in Janice's Beauty Shoppe.

On September 29, 1928, she was united in marriage to Glenn F. BEAR. The first two years of their marriage were spent in Wyoming before moving to Iowa in November 1930. ToO this union were born four sons and five daughters. They were engaged in farming in the Kellerton community except for four years farming in Missouri. They returned to Iowa in 1951 and farmed until retirement in 1971, when they moved into Kellerton to make their home.

Eula worked part time at the Clearview Home for ten years, retiring May 9, 1982. She wa a dedicated worker in the Valentine Rebekah Lodge No. 528 for 35 years, joining the lodge in December, 1951, and receiving her 25-year pin November 8, 1986.

Eula was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; two infant sons; her parents; five brothers and four grandchildren.

She is survived by sons: Donald of Mount Ayr and Ted of Tingley, and daughters, Shirley CASE of Drexel, Mo., Beverly PETERMAN of Nevada, Mo., Karen BAKER of Roland, Iowa, Jean SCHRIEVER of Farmington, Minn. and Betty LONG of Point Blank, Texas; also by daughters-in-law, Darlene and Bryce, and sons-in-law, Lawrence CHASE, Charles PETERMAN and Jerry LONG; 22 grandchildren, 15 of whom are married, and 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lorna KENNARD of Eagleville, Mo. and Minnie WEBBER of Salem, Oregon, and sisters-in-law, Lorna BROCKWAY of Cuttin, Calif. and Ida BROCKWAY of Harbor, Oregon, and a host of relatives, friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held September 3, 1986 from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Pastor Doris KINTON. Music was provided by Mrs. Robert THOMAS and Arlen HUGHES.

Casketbearers were grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Loren RUSH, Carl HOGUE, Loren DRAKE, Harold AKERS, Richard O'DELL and Clair WOOLUMS. Burial was in the Oliver Cemetery in Ringgold County, Iowa.
