OBITUARY - VILAS C. BANNER

Vilas C. BANNER, youngest son of Delino and Lola (BAILEY NEFF) BANNER, was born August 6, 1915, at rural Tingley, Iowa, and departed this life on April 23, 1988 at the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, after a long illness. He had reached the age of of 72 years, eight months and 17 days.

He attended high school at Ellston and spent his entire life as a citizen of Ringgold County. On June 7, 1937 he was united in marriage to Mary CLARK. Two sons were born to this union, Raymond and Eugene.

Vilas farmed in different communities of Ringgold County. In middle life he became the owner-operator of a gravel and farm fertilizer trucking business, a business to which he devoted full time after moving to Mount Ayr in 1965, until his retirement in 1981. Vilas was an honest and hard working man.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his half-brothers, Vance BANNER and Virgel NEFF; his full brothers, Vurl and Vern; and one son, Eugene.

Survivors include his son, Raymond, of Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Vernice SHIELDS and her husband Victor of rural Mount Ayr; sisters-in-law, Inez NEFF of Grant City, Mo. and Marie CRETORS of Des Moines; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He is also survived by his former wife, Mary BANNER, who assisted him in the last years of his illness.

Funeral services were held April 25, 1988, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Alfred HUNTER. Music was provided by Mike GREENE, Mrs. Gary BICKERS and Mrs. Roger TRULLINGER.

Casketbearers were Lyle MAIN, Jerry BOWEN, Todd GLENDENNING, Jerry TOWNSEND, Daughn REASONER and Hugh TERWILLIGER.

Burial was in the Ellston Cemetery at Ellston, Iowa.
