OBITUARY - LEWIS F. JAGGER

1927 - 2007

Mr. Lewis F. JAGGER, 80, of Michigan City, died of cancer Friday, August 10, 2007, at his home.

He was born March 10, 1927, in Maloy, Iowa, to Lewis Franklin Sr. and Gladys Vera (HISCOCK) JAGGER.

Mr. JAGGER was manager of the J. C. Penney store in Michigan City since 1963, having joined the company in 1950. He was the owner of Lake Shore Cement Products and later founded Old Fort Building Supply in South Bend, where he continued to work with his sons until his death. He attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, where he played football and ran track, placing first in the high hurdles at the Drake Relays. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in business and marketing. He was an elder at Community of Christ Church, Galien, Mich., serving as both a church district leader and member of the board of Camp Manitou in Marcellus, Mich. He was a member of Rotary Club, Marquette Mall Association, Pottawattomie Boy Scout Council, YMCA, United Way, Pottawattomie Country Club, and Indiana Concrete Masonry Association. He served on the boards of Walters Hospital, Citizens Bank, Michigan City Housing Authority and Northern Indiana Education Foundation. He was an Eagle Scout and avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish, golf, ski and spend time with his family. He was a friendly, generous man with a positive attitude and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.

On June 3, 1950, in Independence, Mo., he married Donna Y. WILLIAMS, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Sandra NEWCOM of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; two sons, William (Sherry) of La Porte and Robert (Lydia KING) of New Carlisle; seven grandchildren, Ryan and Justin NEWCOM, Brett, Lauren and Kyle JAGGER, Brandy KING and Kristee DOWLING; and one sister, Kay Van FLEET of Independence.

His parents and one sister, Donna MILLER, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, Michigan City, with Allen ENDER officiating. Friends may call Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service.
