OBITUARY - CYRIL ALBERT HUBBARD

Cyril A. HUBBARD, 87, of Creston died December 24, 2005, at Greater Regional Medical Center.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, at Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St. The Rev. Thomas WOODIN will officiate the service. Burial will be in Tingley Cemetery. Open visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. HUBBARD, son of Amy French (SMITH) and Walter Clarke HUBBARD, was born July 8, 1918, in Benton. He graduated from Blockton High School in 1935. On September 17, 1939, he married Irene Rahe VANDERPLUYM in Tingley.

After graduation, he joined the Civil Conservation Corp. He later joined the National Guard and was discharged at the start of World War II. He spent his adult life farming in Ringgold and Union counties. He restored and refinished antique furniture, caned chairs and performed all types of woodworking. He was a member of Farm Bureau for more than 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Irene HUBBARD of Creston; daughter Linda (husband Jim) CRAGO of rural Shannon City; two grandchildren, Vicki (husband Tony) ALLEN of rural Diagonal and Lisa (husband David) CHAPIN of Creston; two great-grandchildren, James (wife Michelle) ALLEN of Creston and Jenny ALLEN (Aaron PORTER) of Des Moines; two great-great-grandchildren, Aubrey ALLEN and Tinsley PORTER; and three nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Clarke HUBBARD and sister Betty HUBBARD.

OBITUARY - CYRIL ALBERT HUBBARD

Cyril Albert HUBBARD was born to Amy French (SMITH) and Walter Clarke HUBBARD on July 8, 1918, in rural Ringgold County, near Benton, Iowa. Cyril entered eternal rest on December 24, 2005, at Greater Regional Hospital in Creston, Iowa, at the age of eighty-seven years, five months and eighteen days.

Cyril graduated from Blockton High School with the Class of 1935. Following graduation from high school, Cyril joined the Civil Conservation Corp. He later joined the National Guard and was discharged at the start of WWII. Cyril spent his adult life farming, first in Ringgold County and later in Union County. Cyril restored and refinished antique furniture, caned chairs and performed all other types of woodworking.

Cyril was baptized at the First Christian Church in Benton, Iowa. Cyril was a member of the Farm Bureau for over 50 years.

Left to mourn Cyril’s passing are his wife: Irene HUBBARD, Creston, IA; his daugher: Linda (Jim) CRAGO, rural Shannon City, IA; two Grandchildren: Vicki (Tony) ALLEN, rural Diagonal, IA; Lisa (David) CHAPIN, Creston, IA; two Great-Grandchildren: James (Michelle) ALLEN, Creston, IA; Jenny ALLEN (Aaron) PORTER, Des Moines, IA; two Great-Great Grandchildren: Aubrey ALLEN, Creston, IA; Tinsley PORTER, Des Moines, IA; three nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Preceding Cyril in death were his parents; his brother, Clarke HUBBARD; and his sister, Betty HUBBARD.
