John Thomas WILLIAMS spent his early life at Frankfort, going to California in 1849 to the gold mines. He returned and married Jane BRYARLY in 1855. They were among the first settlers in Ringgold County, Iowa, living on a farm for awhile, but later moving to Mount Ayr, Iowa, where at the time of his death he was engaged in the mercantile business. During his life he filled every office in the County, except sheriff. He was a member of the M.E. Church, as were all of his family. He was buried at the Mount Ayr [Rose Hill] Cemetery.

NOTE: John Thomas and Jane (BRYARLY) WILLIAMS' oldest son Robert was in the employ of the Union Pacific Railroad, living first at Omaha, later at Salt Lake City and now in New York City. John Albert and Robert's son, Harold, are engaged in the mercantile business. Harold lives at Seattle, Washington, the others in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Etta went with her husband to the U. P. Church.
