CIVIL WAR VETERAN IS CALLED BY DEATH

T. W. WHITE, a Resident of Ringgold County Since 1868, Dies Suddenly.

Death claimed another civil war veteran Monday morning, May 16, when T. W. WHITE, a resident of Ringgold county for fifty-nine years, died suddenly from heart failure. Mr. WHITE had been in his usual health up to a short time before his death. He walked down town Saturday and on Sunday had complained of not feeling well. He was up and around Monday morning and when his daughter, Mrs. J. M. WOOD, called at his rooms to do the morning work was sitting in a chair sewing a belt. Mrs. WOOD left the room for a few minutes and when she returned found her father had fallen from the chair, having suffered a heart attack. Help was summoned, but within a few minutes life had passed out.

Mr. [Thomas William] WHITE was born in Virginia April 4, 1843. When he was four years of age his parents moved to Henry county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. At the age of nineteen he enlisted in Company B, 25th Iowa volunteers and served three years and seventeen days in the cause of the Union during the civil war. At the close of the war he returned to Henry county, where he was united in marriage with Rebecca Ann TEDROW on December 13, 1865, and three years later moved to Ringgold county. Thirteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. WHITE, four of whom preceded both the mother and father in death. Mrs. WHITE passed away November 23, 1926. The surviving children are Mrs. Laura J. WOOD of Mount Ayr, Iowa; John K. WHITE, Kellerton, Iowa; J. W. WHITE, Omaha, Neb.; Silas WHITE, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Lon A. WHITE, Lincoln, Neb.; Jake WHITE, Lincoln, Neb.; Albert WHITE, Macon, Mo.; Lillian M. WHEELER, Lincoln, Neb.; Maude A. VOLLAND, Milford, Neb.

The death of Mr. WHITE marks the passing of one of the few remaining patriots of the civil war period to whom the present and succeeding generations owe a debt of gratitude which can never be paid. He was a true patriot, serving his country valiently in both war and peace.

Funeral services were held yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon at two o'clock at the Church of Christ, being conducted by the pastor, Rev. Ross WILLIAMS, and interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
