OBITUARY - T. J. WASHBURN.
Thomas Jefferson WASHBURN, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert WASHBURN, was born in Worth county, Missouri, March 28, 1864.
He was united in marriage with Miss Josephine DENNIS, September 5, 1886. To this union were born four children: Three daughters (deceased), and one son, Carl WASHBURN of Mount Ayr.
He was converted and baptized into the fellowship of the Baptist church at Lotts Grove in 1894, and served as superintendent of the Sunday school in that church for many years.
He moved to Mount Ayr about 18 years ago and since that time has been engaged in the taxi cab business here.
On Tuesday, February 24th, he was taken ill with appendicitis, from which he developed periotonitis and other complications. On Friday, March 27th, he was taken to the hospital in St. Joseph, Mo., where he underwent a serious surgical operation and then a second operation from which he never recovered.
He passed away at the hospital in St. Joseph, Mo., March 11, 1931, aged 66 years, 11 months and 11 days.
He is survived by his devoted wife, one son, Carl WASHBURN of Mount Ayr, two brothers, Samuel WASHBURN, Allendale, Mo., and John WASHBURN, Allendale, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Martha MURRIN, Hatfield, Mo., Mrs. Elizabeth GATES, Mount Ayr, Iowa, Mrs. Nellie SANDERS, Grant City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Russell, Wain and Carletta WASHBURN, all of Mount Ayr, and many other relatives and friends. His friends were numbered by his acquaintances.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church in Mount Ayr Friday afternoon at 2:30, being conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. J. HAMILTON, and interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
