OBITUARY - JAMES D. WASHBURN.

James D. WASHBURN departed this life March 8, 1898, aged 40 years, 10 months and 5 days. He was born in Dekalb county, Ill, May 3, 1848, and was married to Miss Emily F. JOHNSTON January 28, 1874. To this union was born one son, Frederick D. Wife and son are left to mourn.

Mr. WASHBURN was a member of Company B., Eighth Illinois Cavalry. He fell a victim of a nervous disease, brought on by exposure of army life.

In his death the community has lost a good citizen and neighbor, the family a cherished husband and father. An apppropriate funeral sermon was preached by Rev. G. N. THOMPSON of the United Evangelical church at the home. The soldier was laid to rest in the Caledonia cemetery.

NOTE: Emily F. (JOHNSTON) WASHBURN was born on September 19, 1857, and died on January 23, 1928 with interment beside her husband at Caledonia Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
