OBITUARY - A. J. "BUCK" KESSLER

A. J. "Buck" KESSLER, 89, of Diagonal died April 26, 2004, at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 29, at the United Church of Diagonal. The Rev. Karen GARRISON will officiate the service. Burial will be in Bohemian Cemetery at Diagonal. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Morris-Herrold Post No. 395. Open visitation will be after 11 a.m. Wednesday with family visitation 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home in Diagonal. Memorials may be directed to Diagonal Lions or Dollars for Scholars.

Mr. KESSLER, son of Fannie Belle (RUBY) and George W. KESSLER, was born December 12, 1914, in Diagonal. He graduated from Diagonal High School in 1934. On June 3, 1936, he married Louise K. SLAVIK in Omaha, Neb. He operated a propane truck for Diagonal Oil Company, drove a school bus and worked for Dalbey Lumber Company. He was a longtime scorekeeper for the Diagonal basketball teams. He was a member of the United Church of Diagonal, VFW Post No. 1797 in Creston, American Legion Morris-Herrold Post No. 3395, Creston Elks and Elks Clowns and charter member of the Diagonal Lions Club. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Louise KESSLER of Diagonal; two daughters, Marlene (husband Dick) TEPLY of Diagonal and Sue (husband Bob) BEEMER of Laramie, Wyo.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harold "Red", Donald "Swede" and George "J. R." KESSLER; and four sisters, Ruth MATHIS, Hildreth DAVIS, Ruby MORROW and an infant sister.
