Mary J. GARDNER, 83, of Diagonal died October 17, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Services are pending at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr.

OBITUARY - MARY J. (HUDDLESTON) GARDNER

Mary J. GARDNER, 83, of Diagonal died October 17, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 20, at the United Church of Diagonal. The Rev. John BERAN will officiate the service. Burial will be in Mount Ayr in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr. Open visitation will be after 1 p.m. Wednesday with family receiving friends 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home in Diagonal. Memorials may be directed to Dollars for Scholars at Diagonal High School.

Mrs. GARDNER, daughter of Fannie and James HUDDLESTON, was born April 27, 1922, in Bowden, Ga. On January 22, 1950, she married Gerald R. "Newt" GARDNER in Hiawatha, Kan. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald R. "Newt" GARDNER of Diagonal; two sons, Richard SMITH of Omaha, Neb. and Jerry GARDNER of Humboldt; three daughters, Linda (husband Roger) SHAW of Red Oak, Pat (husband Larry) TEPLY of Diagonal and Lynn (husband Dale) GRAY of Milan, Mo.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson Curtis Ray SHAW.
