DEATH of GRANDMA ROSS.

Died, at her late home in Mt. Ayr, at 1:30 Wednesday morning, after a lingering illness consequent upon old age, Mrs. Martha A. ROSS, wife of Thos. ROSS, Esq., aged 66 years, 9 months and 26 (sic) days. Grandma ROSS was born in Scott county, Ky., November 19, 1821. She was married to her bereaved husband on October 27, 1839 in Sangamon county, Ill. They moved to Iowa in August, 1844, settling in Wapello county, and removed to Ringgold county, settling in Mt. Ayr, in October, 1858, thus being among the first pioneers to our city. She leaves five children, four sons, all grown to man's estate, Hen. H., Mack. K., Charley and George; and one daughter, Mrs. E. VORPE, to mourn her loss, besides a grief stricken companion who is now compelled to travel the weary path of life alone. One son, Thos., Jr., died here in 1872, and four children in infancy. The funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock this morning, conducted by Father ANDREWS.

NOTE: Thomas ROSS, husband of Martha A., was born in 1816, and died in 1901. Thomas and Martha A. ROSS were interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa. Thomas' father was born in 1776, and died in 1864 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery. Of Martha A. and Thomas ROSS's children: McKendree "Mack" ROSS was born September 15, 1848, and died December 1, 1894 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr; Charles W. "Charley" ROSS was born in 1860, and died June 5, 1923 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr; George McClelland ROSS was born November 29, 1862, and died in 1899 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr; and, Thomas ROSS, Jr. was born circa 1846, and died in 1872 at the age of 26, the husband of Mary J. (1842-1871) and a Civil War Veteran.
