OBITUARY.

Lemuel ROGERS, was born in Ohio in 1828. He came to Mt. Ayr thirteen years ago. Before that time he had lived in Mo., and also in Burlington, Iowa. After a long, severe, and fluctuating sickness he passed away on Friday morning, Feb. 8th. On Saturday at half past 1 o'clock p.m., the house was thronged with sympathising friends to pay their respect to his memory. The services were conducted by Rev. E. P. WOOD, the music being led by Mr. McINTIRE. The remains were interred in the south [Rose Hill] cemetery [Mount Ayr].

Mr. ROGERS was a man of great industry ingenuity, and ever genial in his business. He was very generous in his nature. He had a very affectionate heart. He was a kind husband and father. He was patient in suffering. He highly appreciated friendships. He loved to have a friend converse in his sick room with his family when he could not say much himself. His thoughts turned much toward God, as he said he loved God's house and his word. And when his wife asked him in his last moments, when death waited for his final blow, "are you going home" he answered with upturned eyes, "Shepherd".

Thus we have lost a good citizen and are to be condoled with ourselves, while we offer our condolence to the afflicted family which is here, and scattered in Mo., Kansas and Colorado.

NOTE: Lemuel ROGERS fifty-five-years-old at the time of his death. He married Sarah Jane TENNANT at Mediapolis, Iowa, on April 9, 1868, and had five children: Mrs. Sadie WEBB, of Topeka, Kansas; Frank, of Independence, Kansas; George, of Mount Ayr, Iowa; Lemuel, of Selma, California; and Mrs. Laura HEALY, of near Mount Ayr, Iowa.
