OBITUARY - LAVADA "RUTH" (HAYES) ROGERS

1917 - 2005

MOUNT AYR, IA - Lavada Ruth (HAYES) ROGERS, 87, of Mount Ayr, died Wednesday, January 26, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr. Her funeral service was held Jan. 29 at First Christian Church in Mount Ayr, the Rev. John DeBOEF and Mark KNOKE officiating. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville [IA]. Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Homes Inc. of Mount Ayr was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth was born July 17, 1917, in Allerton in Wayne County, to Lewis Tran and Mary Emastine (BEAVERS) HAYES. She grew up in Lineville, and was largely responsible for the care of her nine younger siblings. She lived a short time in the Quad Cities area. She married Amos Clay ROGERS on February 27, 1939, in Princeton, Mo. They lived in Yakima, Wash., for a short time, before moving back to the Lineville area to start a family. Amos was a minister; they lived in Delta 1959-77, in Belle Plaine 1977-87, in Maquoketa 1987-94, and in Chariton 1994-96. Ruth was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1993. Clay took care of her until 1996, when she went into nursing care. In 2000, she and Clay moved to Clearview Home in Mount Ayr. Ruth was known for her sense of humor and memory of special occasions. She loved to garden, sew, cook, crochet and play croquet.

She is survived by her children and spouses: David and Betty ROGERS of Robins, Jean and Wayne WILSON of Urbandale, Daniel and Janice ROGERS of Florence, S.C., L.E. and Lynn ROGERS of Oskaloosa, and Gloria MEYERS of Mount Ayr; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lyle HAYES of Bettendorf; three sisters: Darlene SHOWERS of Davenport, Maxine FAIRCHILD of Leon and Maryetta HARKINS of Blue Grass; and many nieces, nephews and family friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clay; a son-in-law, Steve MEYERS; an infant grandson, Gregory KNOKE; and siblings Ivan HAYES, Faye HAHN, Alva HAYES, Burle HAYES and Murl HAYES.

OBITUARY - RUTH (HAYES) ROGERS

Ruth ROGERS, 87, of Mount Ayr, died January 26, 2005, at the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 29, at the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr. The Rev. John DeBOEF and Mark KNOKE will officiate the service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Lineville. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the First Christian Church. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Research and Assembly of God Home Missions Fund. Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr, has charge of arrangements.

Mrs. ROGERS, daughter of Mary (BEAVERS) and Lewis HAYES, was born July 17, 1917, in Allerton. On February 27, 1939, she married Clay ROGERS in Princeton, Mo. She was a homemaker. She lived in several towns where her husband served as a minister before moving to the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr in 2000. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include five children, David (wife Betty) ROGERS of Robins, Jean (husband Wayne) WILSON of Urbandale, Daniel (wife Janice) ROGERS of Florence, S.C., LE (wife Lynn) ROGERS of Oskaloosa and Gloria MEYERS of Mount Ayr; a brother, Lyle HAYES of Bettendorf; three sisters, Darlene SHOWERS of Davenport, Maxine FAIRCHILD of Leon and Maryetta HARKINS of Blue Grass; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband November 2, 2003; a son-in-law, Steve MEYERS; infant grandson, Gregory KNOKE; and five siblings, Ivan HAYES, Alva HAYES, Faye HAHN, Burl HAYES and Murl HAYES.
