OBITUARY - LAURA AGNES LANDES ROBERTS

Laura Agnes LANDES, the eldest child of Henry J. and Minerva J. (RILEA) LANDES was born in Hopeville in Clarke County, Iowa, September 6, 1870. During her early childhood, her parents moved to Westerville, Decatur County, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. Here she was married, established a home and lived for many years. She was educated in the public schools of Decatur County and attended music school in Des Moines.

On September 16, 1890 she was united in marriage to Thomas R. ROBERTS at Westerville. To them were born eight children, three sons and five daughters. One daughter, Blanche, preceded her in death. Mr. ROBERTS passed away December 28, 1937. One of her two brothers, Samuel LANDES, had also preceded her in death.

Each of her three sons saw active duty during World War I.

Mr. and Mrs. ROBERTS devoted the greater portion of their lives to farming and spent all but two years of their married life in Decatur County.

She leaves one brother, Dr. Frank LANDES of Mount Ayr, Iowa. Her remaining children are namely Ralph R. ROBERTS and Frank L. of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Clarence H. and Mrs. Ruth STUDEBAKER of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Bernice HOCKENSMITH and Mrs. Mildred ALLEY of El Monte, California and Mrs. Grace CHASTAIN of Leon, Iowa. There are eleven Grandchildren, two nieces, other relatives and many friends who will greatly miss her presence, friendship and devotion.

She was a lover of the beauties of nature and was particularly interested in flowers. She was always interested in community welfare. She was an active member of the Narcissus Club and the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist church. A good neighbor, a devoted Mother and a loyal citizen has been taken from our midst but she left us many precious memories.
