PIONEER MINISTER CALLED BY DEATH

Rev. S. A. Elliott, a Resident of
Ringgold County 55 Years,
Dies at the Age of 90.

Rev. S. A. ELLIOTT, pioneer minister of the M.E. church and for 55 years a respected citizen of Ringgold county, passed away Sunday afternoon at the home of his son A. W. ELLIOTT, in west Mount Ayr. He had been cirtically ill for about three weeks and the end, which came peacefully, marked the close of a long and useful life. For several years Mr. ELLIOTT had been in feeble health due to the infirmities of old age and he often said to his friends, "My mottos is, 'Willing to live, but ready to die.'"

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Methodist church, being conducted by the pastor, Rev. Jay KIRKENDALL, and the burial was in Middle Fork cemetery.

S. A. ELLIOTT was born October 21, 1836, in Erie county, Pennsylvania, and passed away Sunday, October 10, 1926, in Mount Ayr at the home of his son, A. W. ELLIOTT, being at the time of his death 89 years, 11 months and 19 days old. He was the youngest of a family of six children and the last one to pass away. He has been a member of the M.E. church for the past seventy-eight years and a Methodist minister for many years.

He was conscious to the last and expressed a desire to go.

His father died when he was twelve years of age. The family then moved to Ohio and later to Illinois. He first came to Iowa in 1856 and acquired part of his land from the government which he still owned and has made it his home for the past fifty-five years.

He returned to Illinois and was married to Louisa M. MARK in 1859, who passed away in 1914. Eight children were born to this union. Those living are Wm. C., Jessie and A. W. ELLIOTT, of Mount Ayr; Mrs. Edna HOOVER, of Manitou, Okla., and Mrs. Lou FOGLEMAN, of Yoder, Wyo. The deceased are Mrs. Mattie J. BARNES, Lillie and Anna Elliott. He also leaves fifteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
