OBITUARY - WILLIAM H. CLEVENGER

The subject of this sketch was born in Randolph county, Indiana, March 4, 1841, and departed this life January 22, 1924, at the home of his daughter, Mary E. MOORE, in Mount Ayr, Iowa. He grew to manhood and enlisted in the service of his country from the locality in which he was born. He was under the command of Capt. Hugh A. STEVENS, Co. B, 36th regiment, Indiana Infantry, 5 Vol, serving three years which completed his term of his enlistment. In early manhood he gave his heart ot God and remained firm that his faith until death, his affiliation being with the M. E. church. He was married to Betsy A. CLEVENGER July 18, 1858. To this union were born seven children. Three of whom survive him - William M. CLEVENGER, of Grant City, Mo.; Maragaret A. HOSKINS, of New Mexico; Rosa M. McATEE, of Wakena, Kan. Betsy A CLEVENGER departed this life July 5, 1871. He married Martha D. THATCHER in 1872. Three children were born to this union. The one surviving is Mary E. MOORE. At the close of the war he came to the state of Iowa, bringing his family overland to Dallas county, where he located. From there he removed to Worth county, Missouri, near Grant City, where he resided until 1919, when he came to Mount Ayr, Iowa.

He was of a kind disposition and benevolent spirit and his friends were numbered by his acquaintance.

Beside his immediate family there remains a host of relatives and friends who mourn his departure.
