OBITUARY - JOHN W. CAMPBELL

John Wesley CAMPBELL was born July 3, 1865, and passed away at his home near Diagonal July 29, 1931, aged 66 years and 26 days.

He was united in marriage to Ida May MEHARRY November 1, 1888. To this union were born nine children, one daughter, Christina Jane, and two infant sons preceding him in death.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, six children, Oscar W. and Floyd C. of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Susie L. of Crawford, Neb., Mary, Cora and Ira at home; three grandchildren, Eleanor, Thelma and Loren; six sisters and brothers, Mrs. Jess FOLTZ of Kellerton, Iowa, Mrs. E. E. LAMBUTH of Canon City, Colo., Mrs. Abbie KENDALL of Clarinda, Iowa, Earl of Symark, Canada, Edward and Charles of Mount Ayr, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends.

John, as he was so well known, devoted his time from early manhood to farming and stock-raising. He was an energetic man, going about his work with pleasure and with a willingness to serve his neighbors and friends in any possible way. He became a member of the Wishard Chapel church during his residence near that place. Later he moved to his home near Diagonal where he lived until an illness extending over a period of approximately four years caused his death. As a kind and loving companion and father, and as a cheerful friend, he will be remembered by all who knew him.

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist Episcopal church of Diagonal by Rev. E. S. MENOHER, of Mount Ayr, assisted by Rev. MATHENY of Diagonal, and interment was made in the Knowlton [Centenary] cemetery.

NOTE: Ida May (MEHARRY) CAMPBELL, wife of John Wesley, was born on May 28 1869 and died on March 24, 1936. She was buried in Centenary Cemetery, Knowlton, beside her husband John W. The infant son of John W. and Ida M. CAMPBELL was born and died on January 2, 1899. He was interred at Centenary Cemetery, Knowlton. Christine Jane CAMPBELL, daughter of John W. and Ida M., was born in 1894 and died in 1914. She was interred at Centenary Cemetery at Knowlton. Harry E. CAMPBELL, son of John W. and Ida M., was born on October 3, 1900 and died April 12, 1902. He was interred at Centenary Cemetery, Knowlton.
