OBITUARY - MRS. JANE CAMPBELL

Mrs. Jane CAMPBELL was born in Ireland in September, 1830, and was married to George CAMPBELL when 18 years of age. They came to America in 1849, and after a brief settlement in Indiana moved to Monroe county, Iowa, where her husband died in 1850. After his death Mrs. CAMPBELL with her five children moved to Ringgold county and purchased a farm in Lotts Creek township, three miles west of Caledonia, where they were respected by all for their industry and integrity. After a continuous residence there for twenty-five years she died March 11, 1898.

The deceased united with the Presbyterian church when young and that was the church of her choice up to the time of her death. She died trusting in her Savior after a few days' sickness. Funeral services were conducted at the residence Sunday at 11 o'clock by the Rev. T. H. JONES, taking for his text John 5:25, "Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age like as a stock (sic) of corn cometh in its season". The large number attending was evidence of the esteem in which deceased was held by the people among whom she had lived so long.

NOTE: Jane CAMPBELL was interred at Caledonia Cemetery. I believe there is a typographical error with George CAMPBELL's death year. According to the obituary, George and Jane CAMPBELL married around the year 1848 and came to America in 1849 with George dying in 1850 after two years of marriage, yet they had five children. The CAMPBELL children were Daniel, William, Martha J., Hugh Gray, and Mary A. CAMPBELL.
