Earnest C. DeLoof immigrated to the US in 1895, apparently at the same time as his father, Alphonse DeLoof. Instead of Chicago or Michigan as other Deloof immigrants, these came to Iowa.
Alphonse is in the 1900 Census in Iowa County, Pilot Twp, and young Earnest age 18 is in Dayton County as a servant.
By 1910 Census Alphonse, now age 58, is in Poweshiek County, Warren twp with son Earnest age 28 included in the hhold.
In 1920 Census there is no evidence of Alphonse -- but Earnest, age 38 b in Belgium, is in Poweshiek, Bear Creek Twp, shown there with his wife Augusta 24 and son August age 3 3/12, dau Leona 1 5/12, and dau Marian, 4/12. (double check the ages of children -- not totally distinct). Now here is my question:
Who was Augusta and from whence did she spring?
Did Earnest send back to Flanders for his sweetheart, or were there other families of Belgium-Flemish nativity in the county? The SSDI suggests that Augusta died in 1979:
Augusta DeLoof b 08 Jul 1896 d Apr 1979 52211 (Brooklyn, Poweshiek, IA) (none specified) 484-64-3536 IowaAny help or remembrance appreciated.
