KENNETH "MIKE" CLAYTON CHENEY, SR.
Kenneth "Mike" Clayton Cheney, Sr., 86, of Deep River died Sept. 3 in Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines.
He was born March 14, 1904, near Millersburg, the son of Willis and Rose Fisch Cheney. On Oct. 18, 1934 he was united in marriage with Evelyn Duane Pierce at Morrison, Ill. To this union six children were born. They lived in the Deep River area where Mike farmed all of his life. In 1974 they moved into town.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four grandchildren, and one brother, Harold Cheney.
Mike is survived by his wife, Duane; six children and their spouses, Kenneth "Bud" and Judy Cheney of Deep River; Dorothy and Donald Van Zee of Cedar Rapids; James and Arva Cheney, LeeRoy and Linda Cheney, and Richard and Jenny Cheney all of Deep River, and Donna and Paul Millhollin of Guthrie Center; 23 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Edith Stoker of Grinnell, Velma Fascella of Deltona, Fla., and Evelyn Wanous of Collinsville, Ill., and other relatives and many friends.
Services were 10 a.m. Sept. 6 at United Church, Deep River, with Rev. Susan Krummel officiating. Music was provided by Verla Van Dee, organist.
Casketbearers were Wayne Cheney, Rex Cheney, Steven Van Zee, Marvin Cheney, Kenneth Van Zee, Martin Van Zee, Roger Cheney, Jeff Cheney, Tom Cheney, Tim Cheney, Kyle Cheney with interment in Golden Rod cemetery, Deep River, under the direction of Watts Funeral Home.
