CONDUCT FUNERAL RITES TODAY FOR EMMA QUIVEY, 96

Mrs. Emma Quivey, 96, Grinnell, died early Tuesday morning at a local hospital following an illness of the past 10 days. She had not been in the best of health for several years.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. B.H. Thorlakson, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Vocal music was provided by Mrs. Donovan Evans and Mrs. LaForest Sherman, accompanied by Ed Bohstedt at the organ.

Serving as pallbearers were Donovan Evans, Burrson Farmer, William Greenwald, Clayton Tew, Willard Wells, and Martin Pearce. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Born Dec. 19, 1865, at Hamlin, N.Y., she was the daughter of Egbert and Hannah Frink Tuttle. She attended the schools of her home town and later graduated from high school at Troy, N.Y.

On July 8, 1890, at Chicago, Ill., she was united in marriage with Berlin Quivey. To this union were born two children; a son, Wilson, who died in infancy, and a daughter, Mrs. Willis (Anna May) Evans of Grinnell.

In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Quivey is survived by two grandchildren, Carl Evans of Ames and Mrs. Don (Mary) Johnston of Grinnell; three great grandchildren, Nancy, David and Susan Johnston of Grinnell. Also surviving is George Bliven of Salida, Calif., who was raised in the family home.

She was preceded in death by her husband in November of 1931, her son, two brothers, and three sisters.

Mrs. Quivey moved with her husband to the Westfield community near Grinnell from Troy, N.Y., and then moved to the home at 808 East Street in 1926 following her husband's retirement.

She was a member of the First Baptist church and had belonged to the Isabelle Brande Guild, the New Century Club, the Rest and Recreation Club, and was a charter member of the Westfield Grange and Westfield Ladies Aid.
