HARRY HILL PIERCE, 81

Harry Hill Pierce, 81, of Deep River died Friday, May 8, 1998 at his home.

His funeral was May 10 at United Church in Deep River with the Rev. Paul Stanfield officiating. The Deep River Singers sang "Abide With Me" and "Because He Lives," accompanied by organist Ellen Zimmerman.

Casket bearers were Ned Pollard, Steve Pierce, Keith Fisch, Gary Pollard, Frank Pierce and Kenneth Cheney.

Graveside Military Rites were performed by members of Morrison-Schrader Legion Post No. 296 and burial was in Golden Rod Cemetery in Deep River.

Harry was born May 31, 1917 in Deep River Township, the son of Herbert Farrell and Jennie Duane (Hill) Pierce. He graduated from Deep River High School in 1934.

He served his country in the Army, 34th Division, during World War II from 1941 until 1945.

On November 22, 1945, he was united in marriage with Virginia Hillman at the Presbyterian Church in Deep River.

He was a member of the United Church and the Morrison-Schrader American Legion Post No. 296.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harlan in infancy; four sisters, Ione and Leone, both in infancy, Lena Fisch and Duane Cheney; and a granddaughter, Samantha Pierce.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Deep River; a son and his wife, Casey and Diana Pierce of Deep River; a daughter and her husband, Karen Pierce and Bill Hart of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Ben and Amber Pierce and Abbey Woodward; two sisters, Bessie Pollard of Osage and Marjorie Byers of Montezuma; two brothers, Farrell Pierce of Barnes City and Boyd Pierce of Keswick; other relatives and many friends.

Memorials may be made to United Church of Deep River.
