OBITUARY

Benjamin Gray died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O.F. Hench, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the 18th day of Aug., 1899. The remains were brought to Malcom, where the funeral was held from the home of Mrs. Sarah Gray, Sunday, Aug. 20, conducted by Rev. Mr. Haines. The bearers were his old friends, Messers. P. Stoaks, John Doughlas, A.F. Palmer, D. Snyder, P.O. Hubbert and J.G. Burch.

Benjamin Gray was born Jan. 8, 1816, in Rensselaer County, N.Y. Was married to Angeline Smith in 1840; to them were born eight children, all of whom have preceded him to the better land save two, Mrs. D.W. Nutting, of Malcom, and Mrs. O.F. Hench of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was bereft of his wife Aug. 25th, 1890. He moved with his family to Scott county, Iowa, in the fall of 1854. In the spring of 1867 he moved to Iowa county, near Marengo, where he lived until the spring of 1871, when he came to Malcom, which has since been his home. He was a member of the M.E. church at Malcom. Cut down as a shock of corn fully ripe, he has gone to his reward.
