LYLE DUANE WEDGEWOOD, 78

Lyle Duane Wedgewood, 78, died Dec. 4, 2008, in the hospice ward of the Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Family visitation was held Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Lyle will be laid to rest at a later date in a private ceremony at the Goldenrod Cemetery in Deep River.

He was born April 22, 1930, in Burt County, Neb. the son of Roy and Mamie (Johnson) Wedgewood. Lyle graduated from Tekamah High School, Tekamah, Neb. in the Class of 1947. After completing one year of college, Lyle taught in a one room school house in western Nebraska. Other career paths included two tours of duty in the Army, installing the first computer system in Iowa at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance, row crop farming, maintenance supervision in various local factories, foreman of a local scrap yard, ethanol production, and truck farming.

He was united in marriage to Joan Elaine Thomasch on June 24, 1960, in the Methodist Church in Ilion, N.Y.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Joan Wedgewood; five daughters: Robin (Joe) Brown of Austin, Minn., Kim Wedgewood of Montezuma, Dorothy (Gene) Tish of Deep River, Barbara (Eric) Seaton of Victor, and Kathy (Richard) Schnoor of DeWitt; three sons, Roy (Tina) Wedgewood of Bonham, Texas, Steve (Debra) Wedgewood of Deep River, and Chris (Angie) Wedgewood of Deep River; 19 grandchildren: Nathaniel McAninch, Crystal McAninch, Ernest McAninch, Jeb Brown, Briston Brown, Madison Brown, Heather Randolph, Jamie Wedgewood, Drew Wedgewood, Jessica Seaton, Shania Seaton, Dalton Seaton, Jacob Schnoor, Allison Schnoor, Justin Schnoor, Abigail Wedgewood, Jonathan Wedgewood, Megan Wedgewood and Isaac Wedgewood; three great-grandchildren, Macaela Randolph, Heath Randolph and Adelaide Randolph.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mamie (Johnson) Wedgewood, and his sisters, Doris Georgeson and Ardith Hennig.
