CHARLES ABNEY FUNERAL RITES

Charles Abney, 80, longtime resident of Grinnell, died Wednesday morning at a local rest home. He had been in poor health for the past several years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Leland W. Mann, pastor of the Congregational church, officiating. Pallbearers will be Perry Wilson, Raymond Innis, Elmer Criswell, Bill Reed, Webb Wallace and Bill Honn.

Interment will be in Hazelwood cemetery.

The son of Louis and Martha Abney, he was born Nov. 20th, 1879, near Hastings, Nebr. The family moved to Boone county, Iowa, when he was young and he received his early education in the Boone public schools.

He was united in marriage with Ethel Holmes in Marshalltown in 1903, and to this union were born two children: Eva, who died in infancy, and Russell Abney of Marshalltown.

In addition to his son, he is survived by two grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two brothers George Abney of Grinnell and Ernest Abney of Marshalltown; and one sister, Mrs. Martha Hulbert of Marshalltown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ethel in 1911, and his daughter in 1906.

Mr. Abney moved to Grinnell about 50 years ago and had been employed with the M. & St. L. railroad and as janitor at the Grinnell State Bank.
