GLEN CECIL BATES
Glen Bates, 63, of Deep River passed away Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 4 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. As was Glen's wish, his body has been cremated and graveside services will be held at a later date in the Golden Rod Cemetery in Deep River.
Glen Cecil Bates, the son of Gerald and Norma Jean (Myerly) Bates, was born on April 13, 1955 in Oskaloosa. He was graduated from Deep River Millersburg High School in 1973. Following high school, Glen moved to Illinois and worked for a company building pole barns for a few years before moving back home to Deep River. After moving back, he worked for his father in the heating and cooling business and then Victor Plastics. Glen worked several years there before working for Montezuma Manufacturing until his retirement in 2015. Glen was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed turkey and deer hunting with his father, fishing, bowling, shooting his guns and watching the races. Glen was a member of the Poweshiek County Sportsman Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Norma Jean Bates.
Glen is survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
