RITES TODAY

Leila Hannah Fleming, 91, of 514 Park St., Grinnell, died Thursday evening, Aug. 1, at Grinnell General Hospital where she had been hospitalized the past month.

The daughter of John and Sierra Crawford Cook, she was born March 9, 1883 at New Hampton, Iowa. She received her education in the Chickasaw County schools, and at the age of 18 she moved with her parents to Grinnell. She was married to Patrick Fleming on June 30, 1909, and he preceded her in death on July 30, 1946.

Mrs. Fleming was employed at the glove factory in Grinnell for 20 years. She was a member of the Grinnell Christian Church.

Survivors include eight children, Mrs. Donald (Elaine) Dean and Mrs. Gordon (Ardine) McKeag, both of Marshalltown, Mrs. Donovan (Kathleen) Saville of Ellsworth, Mrs. Elna Temple of Grinnell, Mrs. William (Helen) Noel of Grinnell; a sister, Mrs. Susan Crowthers of Marshalltown; 20 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, an infant son, an infant sister, one grandson, one granddaughter and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Fleming were held at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ralph Beebe officiating. Organist was Julia Pearce, and vocalist was Gordon Van Donselaaar. Pallbearers were George German, Steve White, Dale Adkins, Kenneth Jones, Estel Cottrell and Clifford Duncan.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
