IRENE FLEMING, 91

Irene Fleming, 91, of Montezuma, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, February 19, 2016 at the Montezuma Specialty Care in Montezuma. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the Montezuma United Methodist Church. Burial will be held in the Jackson Township in Montezuma. Visitation begins after 12 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016 with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church or Grinnell Regional Hospice.

Irene Faye Fleming, the daughter of Ross and Dorothy (Lamb) Brooks, was born on October 4, 1924 in Montezuma, Iowa. She graduated from Montezuma High School with the class of 1942. On October 5, 1946, Irene was united in marriage to Roy Fleming in Montezuma. To this union two daughters were born, Marcia and Nancy. Irene spent her entire life in Montezuma and worked for 32 years at the Assessor and Auditor's Offices at the Poweshiek County Courthouse retiring in 1985. Irene was a member of KEN Club, the Red Hat Ladies Society, a 50-year member of P.E.O. and also a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Faith was very important to Irene. She was a lifelong member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed knitting, reading and playing Bridge. Irene was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending those nice summer days on the golf course. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. She took numerous trips to San Francisco, Kansas City, New York City and Princeton, New Jersey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy Fleming, her siblings, Jean Brooks, Melbourne Brooks, Vivian Wallace, Phillip Brooks, Martha Sparks and Blair Brooks.

Irene is survived by her daughters, Marcia (Les) Carter of Pella, IA and Nancy (Jim) Nervig of West Des Moines, IA; her grandchildren, Erin (Shane Burger) Carter, David (Deniz Aksoy) Carter, Michael Nervig and Amanda Nervig; her great grandchildren, Helon Irene Burger and Evren Aksoy Carter, as well as many other relatives and friends.
