Funeral services for John L. Johnston of Coralville were held at 1:30 pm at George L. Gay funeral home in Iowa City. Mr Johnston, 86, died Sunday. Mr. Johnston, the son of John W. and Elizabeth Hall Johnston, was born Nov. 1, 1890 in Montezuma. He was graduated of Montezuma High School. A veteran of World War I, he was the first draftee from Montezuma. On December 3, 1921 he married Ida Reed in Des Moines. He was a carpenter and a barber and he retired in 1952. He was a member of the Congregational church and the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife; a son, John D. Johnston of Wooster, Ohio; and a daughter, Mrs. William G. Freeman of Coralville; a brother, Francis Johnston of Brooklyn; a sister Elizabeth McCaw Auten of Whittier, Calif; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Burial was in Memory Gardens cemetery.
