MASON CITY - Allie Mae Mulhern, 106, of Mason City, died Friday (March 10, 2000) at the Good Shepherd Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. with the Rev. Randy Nielson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held for one hour before service time at the funeral home.
Allie was born Aug. 26, 1893 in rural Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Martha (Norris) Veverka. She attended country school in Poweshiek County.
She was united in marriage to Fred Mulhern in July 1912 in Brooklyn. They moved to a farm near Mason City in 1918, where she was a homemaker. She worked at Armour from 1945 until 1957. After Fred's death in 195?, she sold their farm and moved to town. She became an active member of the Senior Citizens Center and the Grandmother's Club and was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Mason City. She enjoyed playlng Canasta, traveling with the Grandmothers and growing flowers and vegetables in her garden. She lost her sight in 1968 but continued to live alone until 1993, when she moved to the Good Shepherd. She was a very strong, courageous and independent lady.
Survivors include one son, Fred Mulhern and his wife, Alice, of Mason City; two daughters, Mildred Losh of Mason City and Colleen Seel of Fort Collins, Colo.; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; one nephew and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, two sisters, six brothers and two granddaughters.
NOTE: She is my 1st Cousin 2x removed.
