HORACE A. DAVIDSON

Funeral services were Thursday morning, Sept. 24, at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, for Horace A. Davidson, 86, of Brooklyn who died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, in Friendship Manor, Grinnell. The Rev. William B. Daylong officiated and the organist was Angie Hawkins. Congregational hymns were "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." Casketbearers were his grandchildren. Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

Horace Albert Davidson, son of William Albert Davidson and Nina Charlotte Johnson Davidson, was born Feb. 10, 1912, on a farm near Brooklyn. Horace was a lifelong resident of the Brooklyn area. He received his education in the Brooklyn school, graduating from high school in 1930.

He was married to Lillian J. Rehberg on June 14, 1942, in Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Malcom. He farmed near Brooklyn until his retirement and they moved into Brooklyn in 1985.

Mr. Davidson was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he was Sunday school superintendent and chairman of the administration council, and also donated the cross above the lectern.

He was a member of the Farm Bureau, and he served on the Poweshiek County Extension Council and was township assessor for over 20 years.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian; three sons, Keith, and his wife, Diane, James, and his wife, Jody, all of Brooklyn, and Mark of Ames; six daughters, June Stalzer of Austin, Texas, Patricia Phelps and her husband, Jeffrey, of Grinnell, Betty Fink and her husband, Stephen, of Canton, Ill., Carol Behounek and her husband, Tom, of Montezuma, Mary Ross and her husband, Bryan, of Glidden, and Marlene DePriest and her husband, James, of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Ruth, Mrs. Kenneth Carmichael, of Brooklyn, Miriam Ihle of Alfred, Maine, and Margaret, Mrs. Irvin Nathlich, of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; 25 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, was in charge of arrangements.
