Anthony M. Berardo, 75, of Grinnell and formerly of Dania Beach, Fla., died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at his residence here.
A date for a memorial service has not yet been established.
His wish was to be laid to rest beside his beloved family, therefore in lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that memorial donations to cover the costs of transport and burial to New Jersey be made to the Anthony M. Berardo Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
Anthony was born on April 8, 1936, in Jersey City, N.J., the son of Emilio and Adelina Berardo. Anthony lived in New Jersey and then later in Dania Beach, Fla., where he loved the beach, horse-racing venues, or listening to live music on the Hollywood Beach Boardwalk. He was well-known up and down the east coast of the United States as one of the best horseracing handicappers around. Two years ago he made a temporary moved to Grinnell to be near family and get medical care.
Anthony is survived by his daughter, Robyn Berardo of Grinnell; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother.
