Mrs. Gilmore was always active in church circles. He father was a Methodist minister, serving for years in the churches of Illinois. After moving to Montezuma, Mrs Gilmore attended the Methodist church and often proved her interest in the Master's work by finding tasks in the church.

The service was a simple and impressive memorial. Passages from both the Old and New Testaments were read, together with a number of poems. A quartette composed of Mrs. D. B. Hugh, Mrs. J. L. Ravitts, Warren Pollard and Forest Horsford, sang "Abide With Me," and Mr. Pollard sang "Going Home." Ester Moore presided at the piano.

Six old neighbors and friends bore the body to its resting place in the Montezuma cemetery: Ed Elliott, Joe Hutchinson, Will Dodds, Wm. Horn, L. E. Thorn and Wm. Sharrar. The committal service was given by Wisner Circle of the GAR.
