MRS. WINNIE GILMORE

Services for Mrs. Winnie M. Gilmore were held Monday morning, July 6, at the United Methodist Church here with the Rev. John Barlington officiating. Music was provided by soloist Lois Evans and organist Alice Underwood. Casket bearers were Keith Watts, Frank Wheeler, Robert Broadston, Melvin Mills, Calvin Miller and Hilbert Beebe. Burial was in the Masonic-IOOF Cemetery.

Mrs. Gilmore, 93, died Friday, July 3, at Grinnell General Hospital. The daughter of William and Jennie Ochletree Light, she was born May 31, 1888 on a farm near Deep River. She attended elementary school in Deep River Township. After receiving teacher training at Drake University, Des Moines, she taught in rural schools including Poweshiek County No 9. She was married to Benjamin Gilmore on Dec 11, 1913. They farmed for 31 years. In 1944 they retired and moved to Montezuma. Mr. Gilmore died March 23, 1957.

She was a member of the Methodist Church in Deep River and later in Montezuma. She helped establish and was an active member of the Montezuma Garden Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Louise, of Montezuma; 3 nieces, Margaret Sanders of Deep River, Bessie Bates of Montezuma and Leta Hollmann of Malcom; a nephew, Max Light of Dex Moines; and grandnephews and grandnieces. She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Lizzie of Deep River, and Virginia of Tulsa, Okla; and 4 brothers, Clifford of Deep River, Bert of Des Moines, James of Deep River, Charles of Plainview, Tex.
