GRINNELL, Iowa — Douglas D. Black, 70, of Grinnell and formerly of Warsaw, Mo., died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Mayflower Community Health Care Center in Grinnell. A celebration of life gathering will be held at Edgewood Baptist Church in the Quad-Cities at a later date. Douglas D. Black was born Dec. 29, 1942, in Rock Island to Junior D. Black and Dorothy M. Black. He was raised and educated in Rock Island. He was united in marriage to Gloria June Timm on June 22, 1963, in Rock Island. The couple was blessed with six children: Timothy, Thomas, Tammy, Theodore, Tiffany and Tracey. They raised their family in Rock Island, Eagle Grove, Iowa and Cambridge, Ill. The couple spent their retirement years in Warsaw.

Doug enjoyed fishing, bowling and watching the Chicago Bears. He most enjoyed time spent with his family and his beloved wife of 50 years. He was always happiest when all the kids were gathered together telling stories, teasing one another and reminiscing. Doug will be remembered for his profound love for his wife and his deep devotion to his wife and family, his well-stocked “sweets and cookies” canisters, his success as a salesman, his wink and his smile.

Douglas is survived by his children, Timothy (Lana) Black of Parma, Mich., Thomas (Jennifer) Black of Junction City, Kan., Tammy (Curt) Strawser of Grinnell, Theodore (Tammy) Black of Geneseo, Ill., Tiffany Black of Springfield, Mo., and Tracey (Jason) Conn of Grinnell; 13 grandchildren, Chelsie, Cody, Tori, Megan, Kandace, Austen, Zane, Logan, Rileigh, Ty, Jack, Kyle and Callen; his mother, Dorothy Black of Moline; his step-father, Ted Ferry of Moline; and his siblings, Michael (Lori) Black of Davenport, and Kevin (Marsha) Black of Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, his father, Junior D. Black, and his brother, Steven K. Black.
