Gloria J. Black, age 68, of Grinnell and formerly of Warsaw, Missouri, died on Sunday, August 4, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, in the Carman Center of the Mayflower Community in Grinnell. Memorials may be designated in her name to Autism Awareness or to the Benton County Food Pantry, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Gloria June (Timm) Black was born on March 22, 1945, to Harold and Opal Lilly. Gloria was raised by Emil and Nancy Timm in Rock Island, Illinois. She was raised and educated in Rock Island.

She was united in marriage to Douglas Duane Black on June 22, 1963, in Rock Island. The couple was blessed with six children, Timothy, Thomas, Tammy, Theodore, Tiffany and Tracey. They raised their family in Rock Island, Eagle Grove, Iowa and Cambridge, Illinois. The couple spent their retirement years in Warsaw, Missouri, where Gloria spent countless hours donating her time at the Benton County MO Food Pantry.

Gloria's family was her life. She always provided for her family and enjoyed preparing plentiful meals for their "army like" get-togethers. Even after all the children left she continued to make gallons of macaroni salad. Gloria will be remembered for her infectious laugh, quick-wit, fun-loving sense of humor and her open arms, welcoming anyone at the door.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Douglas Black of Grinnell; her children, Tim (Lana) Black of Parma, Michigan, Tom (Jennifer) Black of Junction City, Kansas, Tammy (Curt) Strawser of Grinnell, Ted (Tammy) Black of Geneseo, Illinois, Tiffany Black of Springfield, Missouri, and Tracey (Jason) Conn of Grinnell; 13 grandchildren: Chelsie, Cody, Tori, Megan, Kandace, Austen, Zane, Logan, Rileigh, Ty, Jack, Kyle, Callen; Also survived by her brother Dale (Sue) Timm. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Edward and Matthew Timm.
