The Lynnville Star writing of the death of William Rivers whose death occurred at the home of his son, Jesse Rivers, on the 27th day of August, 1906, at the age of 73 years, 1 month and 23 days old, says:

William was married to Martha Allen in the year 1859 and to this union were born two daughters, Vina, who is the wife of Francis Randall and resides in Lynnville, Jasper County, and Jane, who died in infancy. The sons are John F. who resides on a farm near Grinnell, Sherwood resides in Union Township, Poweshiek County, Richard resides in Lynnville, Jasper County, William and Fred live in Newton, Ia., Jesse and Davis live in Washington Township. All of these sons and daughter were at his bedside during his last sickness and death.

On the 28 day of August 1906 he was laid to rest beside the grave of his devoted wife who had preceded him about three years in the cemetery at West Liberty Church in Sugar Creek Township, Poweshiek County, Iowa. His sons acted as pallbearers. ~ The Newton Daily News, Friday, September7, 1906, Page 4, Column 3
