CLAUDE SHAFFER SERVICES HELD

Claude W. Shaffer, 79, of Brooklyn died Sunday, Dec. 12, at the Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at the Hartwick Congregational Church, with the Rev. Walter Martin of Victor officiating. Pallbearers were Dennis Korns, Everett Williamson, George McConnell, Harold McLennan, John VanBuren and Bruce Ostrom.

Burial was at the Turner Cemetery in rural Garwin, with the Nevenhoven Funeral Home of Brooklyn in charge of arrangements.

The son of William and Kate Campbell Shaffer, he was born Oct. 14, 1903, on a farm near Brooklyn. He attended rural school. On Feb. 13, 1930, he was married to Lois Hofer, and the couple farmed north of Brooklyn for several years. Mr. Shaffer was a member of the Hartwick Congregational Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Ramona Carpenter of Marshalltown and Bonnie Creps of Malcom; two sisters, Mary Shaffer and Lena Close, both of Brooklyn; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jennie.
