MRS. MARTHA MAIN
HELD THIS AFTERNOON

Martha Peckham Main, daughter of Fredrick and Jane Peckham was born at Exline, Appanoose county, August 19, 1859 and passed away at the Lone Elm Res Home in Grinnell, Jan. 19, at the advanced age of 93 years and 5 months. She was the youngest of 12 children all of whom have preceded her in death. Her father died when she was eleven years of age and her mother when she was nineteen.

She came to Searsboro to work when she was sixteen years of age. It was here she met and married Aaron Main, June 2, 1873. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary June 2, 1923. Eleven children were born to this union, five of whom survive. They are Mrs. Nellie George of Grinnell; Mrs. Ada Ladikos of Sacramento, Calif.; Joseph Main of Searsboro; Mrs. Cora Bailey of Grover, Colo.; and Aaron Main of Des Moines.

Her entire life was spent on a farm southwest of Searsboro. They started housekeeping in a log cabin and it was here her first six children were born. Her entire life was spent in rearing her children and helping others and giving aid to her neighbors who knew her as "Aunt Mat." After her husband's death Oct. 9, 1934, she spent abut two years with her daughters in (unreadable).

On July 1, 1933 she fell and broke her hip and wrist. After several months in the hospital she was cared for in various rest homes. With a lot of determination she was able to walk with the use of crutches.

Besides her children she is survived by 21 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at the James Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Glenwood Stanley. Music was by Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bohstedt and interment was in the Odd Fellows cemetery at Searsboro. Pallbearers were Raymond Main, Melvin Main, Orin Main, Paul Main, Kenneth Main, Afton Gause.
