2 GHS ATHLETES DIE SATURDAY
IN AUTO CRASH NEAR HERE

Two Grinnell high school boys died in a one-car crash on Highway 146 two miles east of Searsboro about midnight Saturday boosting Poweshiek county's traffic death toll for the year to 11.

Funeral services for Stephen C. Adams will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday from the Grinnell Methodist church with the Rev. Leslie O. Warner, pastor of the First Friends church, officiating. Vocal music will be provided b Dale Clark, accompanied by Mrs. Willard Heffner at the organ.

Pallbearers will be Terry Eickelberg, Mike Green, Gary Johnson, Jim King, Ronald Innis and Dave McCurry. Honorary bearers will be members of the Grinnell high school football team, managers, and coaching staff.

Burial will be a Hazelwood cemetery with Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Born in Grinnell on June 17, 1949, he was the son of Melvin and Grace Owens Adams. He attended Davis, Parker and Baily Park elementary schools, Grinnell Junior High, and was a member of the senior class of 1967 at Grinnell Senior High.

While in high school he was active in the athletic program and was a member of the Honor G Club. He was a letterman on the track team where he participated in pole vault, dash and relay events. He was also a letterman on the football team and was currently a halfback with the offensive team.

Surviving are his parents; a brother, Dennis M. Adams, a junior at Iowa State University at Ames; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lela Adams of Grinnell; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Owens of Newton. Also surviving are a number of uncles, aunts and cousins.
