2 GHS ATHLETES DIE SATURDAY
IN AUTO CRASH NEAR HERE

Two Grinnell high school boys died in a one-car crash on Highway 146 two miles east of Searsboro about midnight Saturday, boosting Poweshiek county's traffic death toll for the year to 11.

Funeral services for Gaylon W. Nelson will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday from the Grinnell Methodist church. Officiating will be the Rev. James A. Davidson, pastor of the Sheridan Methodist church.

Interment will be in Prairie View cemetery at Gilman with James-Schalinske Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The son of Elmer and Evelyn McLennan Nelson, he was born March 5, 1949, at Grinnell. He had attended the Grinnell-Newburg public schools and was a member of the senior class. for three years he had been a member of the high school wrestling team and was a member of the Honor G Club.

He was also a member of the Sheridan Methodist church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three brothers--Dale of Moorhead, Minn.; Ronald of the United States Navy, and Kenneth of the family home; two half-brothers, Larry Chbala of Bena, Minn., and Richard Chbala of Moorhead, Minn.; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Jeanie Nelson of Grinnell; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Waldo McLennan of Hartwick, Iowa.

Preceding him in death were a sister, Janet K., in 1948; and his grandfather, Selmer Nelson.
