RITES TODAY

Mrs. Fern Viola Goodwin, 81 of Pasadena, Tex., died Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Southmoor Hospital in Pasadena.

The daughter of Harry I. and Emma Hastings McCarty, she was born Jan. 12, 1894, in Wayne County, Iowa. Mrs. Goodwin had lived in Lamar, Colo., and had lived in Texas the past six months. She was a member of the Spencer View Baptist Church in Pasadena.

Survivors include her son, Donald Lloyd Goodwin of Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Barbara) Blaschke of Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Doris Higgins of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Mary) Gillham and Mrs. Charles (Evelyn) Mastin, both of Des Moines; and two brothers, Holly McCarty of Marshalltown and Fred McCarty of Laredo, Tex. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Reese, Lewis and Nelson McCarty.

Funeral services for Mrs. Goodwin were held at 10 a.m. today (Monday) at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sam Reaves, pastor of the Grinnell Assembly of God Church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Sam Reaves, and pallbearers were Donald L. Goodwin, Leonard Gillham, Millard Gillham and other members of her family.

Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.
