JEROME R. GOODWIN

Jerome R. Goodwin, son of Jesse and Sarah Truax Goodwin, was born January 31, 1883, in Barnesville, Ohio. He attended the schools near the place of his birth, came to Iowa when he was 17, and worked on several farms in Poweshiek and Keokuk counties.

On March 20, 1906, he was united in marriage with Myra Fuller at Barnes City, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin spent 51 years together until her death in 1957. There were five children born to the home.

Mr. Goodwin spent his life on the farms of Poweshiek county. He loved his home and friends, and was always ready to lend a helping hand. A great highlight in his life was a return trip to the place of his birth two years ago.

After a semi-retirement a few years ago, he came to Grinnell in 1957 to be in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Hall, and where his family could give him companionship and care. His brother Homer of Ohio was a constant companion during his last illness of a few weeks, and he passed away Dec. 6, 1959, past 76 years of age.

He is survived by his children, Mrs. Walter (Eva) Hall and Mrs. Vernon (Maxine) Turner, both of Grinnell, Lyle of Malcom, Mrs. Roy (Verna) Baird of Montezuma, and Vernon of Marshalltown. There are 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers--James E. of Garwin, Jesse Herman of Montana, Homer of Ohio; and two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Hobbs of Ohio and Mrs. Emma Cobb of Montana; and nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, three brothers, his wife, and one grandchild.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 9, at 2 o'clock from Steffy Funeral Home in Montezuma with the rev. C.E. Kingsley of Grinnell in charge.

Mr. and Mrs. Keith Stahl sang "In the Garden." They were accompanied by Alice Underwood who also played "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder."

Pallbearers were Frank Wheeler, Henry Wichman, Melvin Johnson, Oscar Olson, Leonard Stout and Fred Ketels.

Interment was in the Jackson Township cemetery.
