BESSIE STUART

Bessie Stuart, 95, of 1426 Fifth Ave., Grinnell, died Thursday, April 21, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lon Lewis, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler. Pallbearers were Jim Gathercole; Delmar Lender; Adam, Dale, David, Doug, Evan and Paul Stuart; and Morris Van Balle. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Grinnell United Methodist Church.

She was born Dec. 4, 1898, north of Kellogg and was raised on the family farm. She attended rural school.

On Feb. 25, 1920, she was married to Ona Bryan Stuart in Kellogg. The couple farmed near Kellogg and later moved to Grinnell where Mrs. Stuart worked for Thompson's Bakery. In the 1950s they farmed in the Blue Point Community south of Grinnell. Mrs. Stuart retired in 1973 and moved to Grinnell.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the former Blue Point Friendship Club.

Surviving are two sons, Keith and Carroll, both of Grinnell; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two grandchildren and two brothers, Lloyd and John Adams.
