JOHN EDWARD HANNAY

John E. Hannay, 67, of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and formerly of Grinnell, Iowa, died in the hospital in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Oct. 6, 2015, after a brief illness. Memorial services were held in the Fountain Hills Memorial Gardens Oct. 13. Burial will be at a later date.

John was born April 5, 1948, to Edward J. Hannay and Ruth Kaldenberg Hannay in the Grinnell, Iowa, hospital. After graduating from Grinnell High School in 1966 he joined the United States Air Force where he served in Viet Nam.

Following his Air Force service John began his aerospace industry career--first in flight training followed by international business development. In the course of his career he was employed by Bell Helicopter as a test pilot, Sikorsky, McDonnell Douglas, MD Helicopters, and Boeing where he was still employed.

John proudly earned Bachelor of Science and Master's degrees from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott. He approached is career with great passion, honesty and endless effort and enjoyed his work. He enjoyed travelling with his wife, Deonise, and golfing with his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Deonise Hannay of Fountain Hills; mother, Ruth Hannay of Pella, Iowa; sister, Mary O'Connor and niece, Megan O'Connor, both of Cedar Rapids; daughters, Jill Clair Hannay and Leslie Gwen Hannay of Seattle, Wash.; son, Jed Ross Hannay, North Garden, Va.; stepdaughter, Jeannine Julia Stafford and family, Australia; stepson, Paul Etienne Joubert and family, South Africa; and grandchildren, Jacob C. Hannay serving in the United States Marine Corps, and Jora Hannay, North Garden, Va.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Hannay, in 1963.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Research Institute or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
