MISS MARTHA HANNAY

Miss Martha Findley Hannay was born in Carsphairn, Scotland on March 15th, 1864, the daughter of John Findley and Margaret Rankine Hannay, and departed this life for her eternal rest Monday morning, August 31, 1959 at a Grinnell nursing home where she had been a resident for the past four years. She was 95 years of age.

In the fall of 1883, when she was 19 years old, the family left Scotland for America and settled in Davenport, Iowa. They moved to Grinnell in 1887 and in 1890 they settled on the family farm home northeast of Grinnell. There she made her home until 1926 when she moved to Grinnell.

Miss Hannay had lived in the Grinnell area for the last 72 years.

Miss Hannay was a member of the Calvary Baptist church in Grinnell and was a faithful and active member until her health made it impossible for her to attend. Her life was devoted to her Savior, her Bible, her church and her loved ones.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ben Buck of Grinnell; two nephews, Edward Hannay of Grinnell and Robert Hannay of Omaha, Neb.; one niece, Mrs. Wade Hamor of Milwaukee, Wis. and a host of friends.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, Sept. 2nd, at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Lester Williams, pastor of the Calvary Baptist church officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Leonard Pearce at the organ and Mrs. J. Lester Williams as vocalist.

Pallbearers were Ben Buck, Worth Belden, Grinnell Dunham, Elmer Iverson, Croft Pilgrim, and Paul Worcester. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.
